Post Placement Home Visits

Post Placement Home Visits

The post placement period is the time after a child is placed into your home and before your adoption is finalized in court. (For a domestic or relative adoption completed in Texas, a child is required to be in the home for a period of six months before an adoption is finalized.)

The court system requires Post Placement Reports, prepared by a licensed professional, about the adoptive child’s placement and adjustment to the adoptive home during the post-placement period.

During the post placement process, we follow up with you and your child during scheduled home visits to offer our support and make sure you and your child are adjusting well to the new placement. Following these home visits, the Post Placement Reports are prepared and sent either to the placing agency or the adoption attorney with whom you are working.
